It’s Heart Month at NoSilence NoViolence!
February is heart month, and we hope you can open yours to help domestic violence survivors. We were flooded with requests in January, met most of them, and now our coffers are running low. We need to renew funds in order to keep saying YES to survivors in need.
Say YES to a donation by clicking here.
You are receiving this note because you have stood with us before, as we stand alongside courageous women who take the brave, and often dangerous, step of leaving an abusive partner in search of a better life.
Our fundraising goes directly to meet client needs. We have almost no overhead expenses— no office rent, virtually no staff to pay, no government contracts to restrict how we provide assistance. So we are hoping we can count on friends like you, either as new donors or our ongoing stalwarts, to make a donation as we head into “heart month.”
The great news is that NoSilence NoViolence is growing—more women suffering with domestic violence are seeking our help. And more community organizations are referring clients to us. We have established a reputation as a grassroots organization that can respond right away to emergency situations. January is often a very busy month for us. Women try to keep the family intact during the holidays but know they must separate for their own and their children’s health and safety come the new year.
How did we expend nearly $10,000 in January? By responding to over 30 urgent requests. We made a partial rent payment to help a client avoid eviction. Funded a car repair for a woman working two jobs to make it financially feasible to live apart from her abuser. Purchased school clothes and supplies for children whose family moved out of a shelter; we outfitted them to start a new school feeling properly equipped. A community organization requested our help for a mother with a newborn who realized she should not return to live with her abuser. Thanks to NSNV, they left the hospital with diapers and a full layette. And we are subsidizing trauma therapy for five additional clients—an expensive long-term commitment on our part— but a service which research has shown is the most effective intervention for long-term change.
This is what we do. Every month. And we cannot continue to respond effectively without ongoing support. We hope you can make a donation at this time. Private grants help but we count on our loyal donors—new and returning— to enable us to keep saying YES to families taking bold steps to change their lives.
Thank you for all the ways in which you stand with us.
